Virginia Gomez Obituary

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we share the passing of Virginia N. Gomez, 90, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, tia, madrina, niece, cousin and friend too many. Virginia entered into internal rest with our Lord Jesus Christ on May 6, 2022, with family by her side and her lifelong sweetheart Genaro.

Virginia was the daughter of Ruben and Otilia Ayala of Newbury Park, Virginia was born in El Rio, California on June 3rd, 1931, she attended Oxnard high school in 1950 where she met her husband and lifelong sweetheart of 67 years to Genaro C. Gomez after returning home from the Korean War. Virginia and Genaro were the first to get married at the Santa Clara chapel where it is relocated today. Virginia love visiting her parents in Moorpark on Sundays at the Cruz’s ranch especially on Easter Sunday which was a major gathering of family and friends. She also loved traveling and camping across country. Virginia and Genaro would settle in El Rio in the early 60’s to build their first and only home and be a lifelong resident, having three children, Genaro C. Gomez Jr, Diana Gomez-Munoz and Ruben Gomez and many more would call her Tia or grandma. Virginia was a daycare provider for more than 45 years, she was an active El Rio Lion Club member, Santa Clara Chapel, Santa Clara fiesta, El Rio Elementary school PTA, El Rio Bobby Sox and El Rio little league. She loves hosting large gatherings of family and friends at her home. She loved singing while she played her piano and love teaching her granddaughter a few keys. Her Sunday getaways would be at the ballpark with family to watch her grandson play, she would always tell him hit me a home run today. Virginia would sneak away with her daughter Diana to the Chumash casino for a few hours.
Virginia was proceeded by her parents Ruben and Otilia Ayala, brother Martin Ayala and son Genaro C Gomez Jr. She is survived by her husband Genaro C Gomez, daughter Diana Gomez-Munoz and son-in-law Jess, Son Ruben Gomez. Her sister Helen Cruz and husband Leonard Cruz, in addition Virginia is survived by grandchildren Genaro C Gomez 3rd and wife Valerie Marie and Great granddaughter Emma Rose, grandson Danny Gomez and granddaughter Amy Gomez. Granddaughter Lorraine Munoz-Martinez and husband Jimmy, great grandson Isaac, Noah and Abram, grandson Jesse Munoz and wife Lisa, Great granddaughters Livvy and Lilith , Granddaughter Alexandra Munoz-Ortega and husband Michael and granddaughter Jamie Gomez, grandson Ruben Anthony Gomez and wife Amanda , great grandson Ryan and Great granddaughter Leah, granddaughter Erica Gomez -Hart and husband Torin. And many more nephews and nieces, and many others that called her tia or grandma throughout the community. We would like to thank our Family members for giving her spiritual guidance and keeping her spirits uplifting till the end. Also, her special caregiver Suzette and Carmen, the ladies from hospice Hanna and Amelia. Because of her love for colors please honor Virginia by wearing any shade of purple or pink.

Life will never be the same, it will be difficult, however we will move forward together.
