Steven Patrick Gormley, 71, of Oxnard, CA, passed away unexpectedly on May 9th, 2024.
Steve was born in Ventura, CA and later established his home and family in Oxnard, CA. Steve graduated from Hueneme High School in 1970. Soon after, Steve married his sweetheart Debbie Gormley, who he was married to for 50 years. Steve had a huge impact on those that knew him. This was especially true for all of his friends and family, coworkers at GTE/Verizon and countless athletes he coached in baseball, football and softball. Those who had the privilege of crossing paths with Steve will always remember his big heart, his laid back demeanor and positive outlook on life. Steve was an avid surfer in his younger years and had a special connection with the ocean. If he could speak to all of us from heaven, Steve would say “We cannot stop the waves of grief from coming, but we can learn to surf them.” Steve lived for his grandkids, whom affectionately called him Bockie. Even though Steve had a lot of friends, his grandkids were his best friends. Steve is preceded in death by his father Whitney, mother Vonnie and brother Michael. He is survived by his loving wife Debbie; his children Erin (Chris) Peyton and Kevin (Bella); his sister Cathy (Mike) Muro; stepsister Teri and stepmom LaVerne. Steve’s huge heart will be carried on through his 4 grandchildren: Emma, Matthew, Macey and Steven. Family and Friends may visit Camino Del Sol Mortuary, 200 N. C Street, Oxnard, CA on Thursday, May 23rd from 5pm to 7pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at Santa Clara Church at 10am with a reception to follow at the Eagles Lodge located at 4684 Saviers Rd in Oxnard.
