Rafael Antonio “Tony” Roman
February 4, 1969 – May 31, 2026
Rafael Antonio Roman, known to friends and family as “Tony,” passed away on May 31, 2026, at the age of 57.
Born on February 4, 1969, Tony was a 1987 graduate of Channel Islands High School. He began his professional life with a heart for service, working with the elderly as a teenager before becoming a Psychiatric Technician at Camarillo State Hospital. He served there with compassion until the facility’s closure in 1997.
Ever resilient and gifted, Tony transitioned into a second career as an AutoCAD Drafter. His natural creativity and technical precision earned him the nickname “The Drafting Guru.” For 22 years, he was a cornerstone of Stantec LLC, where he was highly respected for his work ethic and dedication until his retirement in 2019.
Tony’s true passions, however, were found at home. He was a passionate musician who could compose melodies off the cuff, playing guitar with a skill that seemed effortless. His love for music knew no boundaries, spanning from classic rock and death metal to Spanish music and rap. He and Kelly married in 2002 and shared a special bond through music, often spending time singing and playing guitar together.
A true homebody, Tony found his greatest joy in the simple things: movies, family time, and Saturday trips to the theater with his stepson, Adrian. While he was often shy, his heart was wide open to those he loved. He relied on Kelly to be his “encyclopedia” for movie titles and dates, a role she filled gladly throughout their 32 years together.
Tony is survived by Kelly; his son, Alijah Roman; stepson, Adrian; his mother, Abigail O'Quinn; and his brothers, Javier Roman, Michael O'Quinn, and Daniel O'Quinn. Grandchildren; Abilene Rose and Adonis Oak.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ignacio Roman Gallegos; his stepfather, Bob O'Quinn; his brother, Ignacio Roman Jr.; his mother-in-law, Judy Gibson; his Grandpa Larry; and Kelly’s son, Adonis Jordan.
Service Information Family and friends are invited to honor Tony’s life on Friday, June 12th, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Camino del Sol Funeral Home North C Street, Oxnard, CA 93030
