Miriam Carol McGrath

Our Mother and matriarch, Miriam Boothe McGrath passed away peacefully Friday, September 29th. Miriam was the first child born to Marie and Frank Boothe in Grants Pass, Oregon on October 4, 1924.

Miriam attended Turlock High School and eventually focused on a nursing career in San Francisco at St. Mary’s College of Nursing.  

After graduation in 1947, she moved to Oxnard and worked at St. John’s Hospital where she met the love of her life.  Miriam married Joseph Dominick McGrath Jr. August 28th, 1948 in Turlock.  Shortly after marrying, they moved to the Montalvo Ranch where they raised their children. She is survived by son Jim (Margo) McGrath, daughter Mary McGrath, son David McGrath (Diana), son Stephen McGrath and son Martin (Sheila) McGrath.

Mom and Dad were blessed with seven grandchildren- Tyronne McGrath, Makala (Chris) Maloney, Patrick McGrath, Doug McGrath, Garrett (Kellie) McGrath, Jillian McGrath and Spencer McGrath and their three great grandchildren- McKenna Maloney, Cailyn Maloney and Jack Maloney. Mom could not be more proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and all their endeavors!  
Miriam was proceeded in death by her husband, Joe, brothers Bob and Bill.  

Miriam was a member of Las Patronas Auxillary of Assistance League, the National Charity League and St. Anne’s Assn.  She was an avid gardener, loved to travel and always had dogs near her side.  

We cannot end without saying a special thank you to caregivers Teresa, Yvonne, Erica and Ofelia.  Lupe Hernandez, who has been a guardian angel beginning with Dad, agreed to remain with Mom to care for her after he passed in 2006.  We are forever grateful for Lupe and the team who showed such kindness and compassion.

She loved her Catholic faith, and attending Mass with her family. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Our Lady of Assumption, Ventura or the charity of your choice. A service for Miriam will be Wednesday, October 4th at 11:30 am at Our Lady of Assumption in Ventura.
