LeVere Elaine Crum

Our beloved mother, Le Vere Elaine Crum, 91, passed away peacefully to the arms of her Lord God on Saturday, February 28, 2026.  Le Vere was born on the family farm six miles west of Genoa Nebraska on July 18. 1934. She was the firstborn of 3 daughters to Oscar and Lottie Linnerson.  She graduated from high school, where she realized she wanted to pursue the teaching profession.  She attended college and went on to earn a teaching certificate from Kearney College.   Le Vere taught in country schools for 3 years.

Towards the end of the 1950s, LeVere moved to Omaha to work as a nanny for a father who had five children.  One Sunday evening, Le Vere decided to attend a singles dinner at Dundee Presbyterian church.    Afterward, Le Vere was standing on the steps of the church, waiting for the father to pick her up.  Eventually, the doors were locked and the lights were turned off.   She turned to see a man standing on the other side of the steps.  He seemed bashful to Le Vere, but he got up the nerve to come over to her and ask if she wanted a ride home.  This was the beginning of their romance that eventually led to marriage.  LeVere married Norman James Crum at the Genoa Methodist Church on November 19, 1961.   Norman was offered a technical research librarian position at General Electric (think tank) in Santa Barbara, California.   In March of 1962, they left their midwestern roots and headed for the Golden State.

Le Vere was known for her strong faith in Jesus Christ, her love of children, visiting with friends and helping others. Her interests included cats, painting, singing, poetry, reading, playing the organ and nature.  LeVere is preceded in death by her husband and sister Charlotte Beck.  She is survived by her son Kevin Crum, her daughter Brenda Curts, her sister Winnie Peterson, her nieces Christine Rhynalds and Sheryl Kippen and her nephew Kurt Peterson.
