LV Nunnery Obituary

LV, affectionally known as “Lizzie Mae” to her Mississippi family was born on March 18, 1943, the youngest of twelve to the loving union of the Sterling and Murrie Travis Magee in Pricedale, Mississippi.
LV received her education in Mississippi where she graduated from Booker T Washington High School. In 1963, soon after graduating, she married Robert Nunnery and in 1964 they moved to Oxnard, California.

She was a homemaker and raised her children and other people’s children when needed. If a child was under her care, they were loved and treated as her own even if that meant getting that long switch when needed, fed, and cleaned by the time they were picked up. She was loved and respected by her children’s friends and affectionately called “Mama Nunn” or “Mama Nunnery” by them.

When meeting LV, you were greeted with a smile, offered something to eat, and a seat to talk. LV loved car rides while listening to some good quartet music. Her favorite was Lee Williams and the Spiritual QC’s.

She was a faithful member of Bible Way Church of God in Christ in Oxnard and served as Pastor Aide under the leadership of Pastor George Thompson. She was known to wear a big hat for the Pastor’s Anniversary and would flaunt that she would raise the most money each year.
LV departed this life on Friday, January 7, 2022, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sterling and Murrie Magee; husband Robert Nunnery, children Albert and Curtis, grandson Lamar; siblings Leroy, Thomas, Jessie Magee, Lonnie and Sallie Pittman, and Ola Mae Nichols.
LV leaves to cherish the memory of her life well lived, five sons, Robert, Paul, David (Kim), Melvin and Wendell Nunnery, two daughters Patricia (Ronald) Nunnery-Dixon and Dorothy Nunnery. Sisters, Lillie Cook, Rosa Lee Hines, Louise Bridges and brothers David and Dallic Magee. Twelve grandchildren: Shantel, Deondre, Davonte, Shiann, Tiona, Mya, Jamal, Trey, Lovena, Kendra, Jason, and Jujuan . A special niece Bunnie James. Godchildren: Precious May Scott, Shirley Mitchell, Shawn Walters, Michael Johnson, Swanson Nunnery, and Freddie Bradley. Her sisters and brothers in Christ Vernell and Carrie Bell and Nathaniel and Nita Dillon, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

LV will be greatly missed by all who knew, loved and encountered her beautiful soul. Rest well, we shall see you again!
