Jose Macoy Jr. Obituary

Jose Algoso Macoy, Jr. passed away peacefully on the eve of Pentecost Sunday, June 7, 2025 at around 8:45 p.m. at the family residence. He was born in the town of Dumanjug, Province of Cebu (Philippines) on the feast of the Immaculate Concepcion on December 8, 1932, the 6 th child of Jose Serna Macoy, Sr. and Felicidad Pasculado Algoso. He was baptized in the St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church in Dumanjug, Cebu. He married Beatriz Oyao Gonzales from Camotes, Cebu (Philippines) on the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 7, 1959. Jose and Beatriz were gifted with four beautiful daughters: Melba, Mitzi, Myra and Marnie. Jose Jr. was endowed with a strong spirituality and good moral values which were formed and nurtured through the examples of his parents. Felicidad was a very religious and pious woman. Jose Sr., who served as town mayor for 26 years, was a dedicated public servant. Thus, Jose Jr. grew up witnessing the values of serving people and prayerful life. His parents inculcated love of God and loving others. The Macoy Family is very closed-knit. Jose Jr. was a family-oriented person; very loving, kind and caring. He enjoyed spending time with his children, nephews, nieces, grand children, relatives & friends, and was a thoughtful brother. He would gather members of the Macoy clan and hosted parties in his home. He was a jolly person with a very good sense of humor; and most of the times, a deadpan humor. It’s always fond to be with him, who has the ability to make new acquaintances feel comfortable around him. He was very dignified and respectable, very upright person, hard-worker, and a man of good character. He was a sports enthusiast, especially basketball, and a great Lakers fan; he took pride of his younger brother Julian who still holds the record in the Philippines of achieving 126 points in one game. He enjoyed watching classical & musical movies, and listening to classical music as well. His hobby includes gardening, fixing things, playing ukulele, singing and dancing. He was a very talented artist and enjoyed calligraphy and photography. He had a strong devotion to St. Francis of Assisi (patron saint of Dumanjug, Cebu) and was one of the founding-members of the Association of Dumanjuganons for St. Francis of Assisi in USA. He was a strong leader, especially in the celebration of the feast of St. Francis, and hosted novena prayers in his home. He always maintained peace among the family. He was a peace-maker, very forgiving; and he despised injustice and unfair treatments. He was very friendly, generous, and always willing to help others, even helping them find jobs especially those who just immigrated to the USA. He was always fun to be with, and had been a patient escort of his daughters and nieces when they would go out shopping. He was a man of faith, a true disciple of St. Francis, and a witness to Christ. He was predeceased by his parents Jose & Felicidad, and siblings: Restituto, Necitas, Solomon, Dolores, Caesaria, and Jacinto. He is survived by his wife Beatriz; daughters: Melba (husband Rey Yncierto), Mitzi, Myra (husband Sean Cleary), and Marnie; grandchildren: Matthew, James, Nikki, Kyle, Phillip, Natasha, Jezelle, Adam, Charlotte; brothers: Julian and Amerigo; and in-laws, cousins, nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces, great-great grandnephews and great-great grandnieces. He will be greatly missed by his family, relatives and friends. Visitation is on July 8, 2025 at Camino Del Sol (200 N C Street, Oxnard, CA 93030) from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with Rosary and Vigil Prayer for the Deceased starting at 6:00 P.M. The Mass of the Resurrection is on July 9, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church (2511 C Street, Oxnard, CA). Rite of Committal and Interment will follow after Mass at Santa Clara Cemetery (2370 N H Street, Oxnard, CA).
