Jacqueline Cates Obituary

Jacki was born in San Diego, Ca on February 14, 1965 to Annie Fields and Joseph Marsh and passed away in Oxnard, Ca on March 10, 2025. She was raised in Oxnard, where she grew up with her mother and siblings, and where she attended Channel Islands High School. After starting her family and raising her children—Kandyse, Jamee, and Louis—in Lancaster, Jacki returned to Oxnard, where fate would lead her to meet Alan, the love of her life. From the very first moment they crossed paths, their connection was undeniable, and together, they embarked on a journey filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Their life together was further enriched with the addition of their beloved fourth child, AJ.

As a Navy wife, Jacki flourished in her role, embracing the opportunity to meet other families, volunteer her time, and form deep and lasting friendships along the way. Alan, with his unwavering love and support, gave Jacki the freedom to truly be herself, and their partnership was one of mutual respect and devotion.

Above all, Jacki was a fiercely loving and protective mother. Her children knew she would always have their backs, and her nurturing spirit extended beyond her own family. Jacki became a second mother to many, caring for not only her own children but also their friends and anyone who was fortunate enough to be in her circle. One of her greatest joys in life was becoming a Gammy to her precious grandchildren, Jaxon and Tessa. She poured her love into them, spoiling them with affection, laughter, and care, just as every grandmother should.

Jacki had a heart of gold, and her kindness knew no bounds. She was known for her infectious laughter and her playful nature, always ready to crack a joke or lead a mischievous prank. But beyond the laughter, Jacki’s compassion shone through in her volunteer work. She dedicated much of her time to helping others, especially in her community. She was involved in local shelters, soup kitchens, and, more recently, a food share program that provided assistance to those in need in her own neighborhood.

Jacki is preceded in death by her parents, Annie Fields and Joseph Marsh, Frank and Betty Golaway, and her brother Johnny Lee Serrano. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Alan Cates; her children, Kandyse Deam (Dustin), Jamee Ybarra, Louis Ybarra Jr. (Paige), and AJ Cates; her grandchildren, Jaxon Ybarra and Tessa Deam; her sisters, Jolynn and Monchy; her brother, Michael Fields; her sister, Linda Reeves; as well as many other cherished family members and dear friends. Jacki’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and laughter. She touched the lives of many, leaving behind cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know her. She will be dearly missed, but her spirit will remain with us, always.
