It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria J. Tovias on Friday, September 6, 2024, after a brief illness. Gloria was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, Aunt, cousin, and friend.
Gloria was born January 28,1945, in Santa Paula, California, to Inasio and Vera Tovias. She attended local schools, graduating from Santa Paula High School in 1962, lettering in volleyball and swimming. She then attended and graduated from Sawyer Schools of Business in 1963.
In her early years, Gloria worked at Port Hueneme Naval Base in data entry before joining the work environment at Romney Law Firm in Santa Paula and later joining the law firm of Myers & Widders, later becoming Myers, Widders, Gibson, Jones & Feingold, as a Legal Secretary. She retired from the company in July of 2015, receiving an award for her 38 years of devotion and commitment.
Her greatest and most-proud accomplishment was raising her son with the help of her mother, father, family and friends, while she worked to build and provide a home for the two of them. Gloria and her only child, Raymond, had a special bond like no other and spent their mornings and evenings together. It was especially in her retired years that she was able to fully enjoy the fruits of her labor and their time together. Just as he would do with his Nana Vera. Spending time with Mom every day after work was the highlight of his day, always checking in on her and always putting her first.
She was an avid reader, collecting numerous books over the years, and could be found sitting on her couch with an open book on her lap, diving into a good Murder/Mystery, which was her favorite to read. She also loved that in TV shows & movies. This included Harry Potter marathons and faithfully watching & cheering on her Los Angeles Dodgers.
Gloria was a woman of many talents; she enjoyed baking very much. Cakes, pies and cookies were her favorite to make, and her family enjoyed her delicious sweets throughout the year. She also had a talent for sewing, knitting, and crocheting, especially finding a new enthusiasm for her gifts when expecting the arrival of her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. She also had a guilty pleasure for shopping, especially for shoes — a vice that she greatly enjoyed sharing with her granddaughters.
Gloria will be dearly missed by her son, Ray Ramirez (wife Khristine); brother Ronald Tovias (wife Julie); granddaugh- ters Justine Schaefer (husband, Christian) and Eloise Victoria Ramirez; great-grandchildren Ezra, Amina, Hila, and Carmi Schaefer; nephews and niece, Eric Tovias, Mia Tovias, Steven Tovias; grandnephews Joshua, Gabriel and Samuel Tovias, Aaron Gomez, Joseph Morales; and many family cousins, co-workers and dear friends.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Inasio and Vera Tovias.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Doctors and staff at Ventura County Hematology Oncology; Community Memorial Hospital; the staff and friends at the Law firm of Myers, Widders, Gibson, Jones & Feingold; and Father Pasquale at her parish, St. Sebastian Church. Thank you all for your help, understanding, compassion and love.
A memorial service will be held on November 14, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 235 N. Ninth St., Santa Paula, CA 93060, with reception following the service.
