Bruce Calvin Johnson

Mr. Bruce Calvin Johnson was born on January 22, 1960 and he gained his wings in the comfort of the home in which he resided on July 2, 2023. He was the first born of six in Brewton, Alabama to Hiliria and Ruby Delores Johnson.

 On October 16 1958, his parents united in marriage in Beaumont, Texas and later moved to California in 1960. They grew their family to 5 additional children, following Bruce Johnson,  came Hiliria Johnson, Berlinda Johnson, Steven Johnson, Jannie Johnson, and John Johnson. His mother was a stay-at-home mom and caretaker, while his father worked and provided for their family.

As a young boy Bruce and his family moved from Los Angeles, California to Oxnard, California.  They became lifelong residents of the city and Bruce lived out his remaining years. Bruce attended Rose Avenue Elementary School, Fremont Jr. High School, and later graduated and earned a high school diploma from Channel Islands High School. As a young child, he loved to play sports. He played little league baseball, basketball, and football. In high school, he continued his love of sports and played football.

After graduating from high school, Bruce started working with his father doing construction. During this time he learned new skills which include dry walling and finishing. His love for sports extended to the television where he constantly flipped back and forth between sports games. His next favorite thing to do was eat. He loved some good meals and his favorite food, fried chicken.

At the early age of 18 years old Bruce welcomed a baby boy by the name of Jermey Russell Johnson on July 31, 1978. He enjoyed and adored being a father. Although these past few months have been trying and heartbreaking, our beloved brother's spirit lives on in our hearts with memories that we have and share. As we mourn our brother, his spirit will never truly leave us. Let us remember Bruce as a loving father, son, uncle, brother, nephew, and friend to us.

Bruce Calvin Johnson is preceded in death by his mother (2022), his father (2017) and his youngest sister, Jannie (2022). He leaves behind his 4 siblings and 22 nieces and nephews. A Memorial Celebration for family and friends is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 12:00 noon at Channel Island Community Church of God in Christ, 1350 East Channel Islands Blvd., Oxnard, California.
