SANTA PAULA - It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and nana, Barbara A. Lovio, a longtime resident of Santa Paula. She passed away peacefully at home with her family and fur baby, Sophie, by her side on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, after a valiant eight-yearlong battle with cancer. She was 77 years old. All through these years she would never complain regarding her suffering. She would greet you with her loving smile. Barbara was born on March 26, 1947, to Edward J. Curran Jr. and Josephine in Santa Paula, California. She was a graduate of the Academy of St. Catherine High School in Ventura. Later in life, while raising a family and working a full-time job, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of La Verne. Barbara then went on to open her own business, Lovio Tax Service. Barbara met her husband Gilbert in the Summer of 1959 and married in January of 1966. They went on to raise four children, two boys and two girls. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Edward J. Curran III, wife Karen, her sister Cathy Grether and brother- in-laws, Charles Booker and Robert Turnbull. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Gilbert; her sons, Tim and Ron Lovio; daughters, Julia Ming, (Troy), Sherri Gardner, (Duane); bonus daughter, Patti Hansen; five grandchildren, Rachel Bruce, Joshua Ming, (Angie), Taylor Lovio, Shianne Milne, Makenzie Ming and four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Reid and Caroline Bruce and Josiah Ming.; her brothers Bill (Amy), George (Mary) and sisters Margaret Booker, Joanne Turnbull and many nephews and nieces. Barbara became a member of Young Lady’s Institute (YLI) a Catholic women’s group. In 2003 she was elected as the Grand President of the Institute, overseing the various districts in the State of California, Washington, Oregon, and Hawaii. Barbara’s love for her church and Christ was never ending. Her favorite Proverb was 31:10-31. “Woman is a figure from the Bible who represents a godly woman who lives a life of devotion to God and service to her family and community.” Barbara was caring and giving of herself, always offering to help anyone in need. Barbara was a loving and giving wife, mother and nana. Her heart found its greatest joy in her family, spending cherished moments with those she loved the most. One special memory was a 7-day Caribbean Cruise in 2016 with her family of 17. A trip that will never be forgotten. Barbara And Gilbert enjoyed their times together traveling to faraway places. Among their favorites were Italy and of course Ireland. After all, Barbara had a lot of Irish blood in her. She didn’t hesitate to get behind the wheel of the motorhome and drive the family across the country to visit places like Mount Rushmore. You would always see Barbara with a crochet hook in her hand, crocheting in the motorhome while on road trips and by a campfire at night. She crocheted hundreds of blankets for all her friends and family. She was an amazing woman and loved by so many. Barbara’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Anne Rodriquez of Cottage Hospital, whom Barbara loved and trusted. We would also like to thank Livingston Memorial and Dan, her nurse, for his compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to be made to YLI St. Paula #195 scholarship fund or the Golden Jubilee Burse in the name of Barbara Lovio. On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, a Rosary will be held beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by Mass celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Sebastian Church in Santa Paula. Graveside services will follow at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.
