In the early morning of Sunday June 25, 2023, Armando Moreno passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Oxnard on June 27, 1953, Armando attended local schools and graduated from Oxnard High School in 1972. Several years later, he started “Armando’s Janitorial Service” where he gradually built a solid clientele base, servicing many Oxnard and Ventura offices during after-hours. In addition to his business, he was also a fixture at First Student (previously known as Durham School Services) in Oxnard where he provided transportation for special needs children for over 30 years. Armando especially loved this job and it became his passion, all while growing many wonderful friendships with his passengers and their parents along the way.
Always a “busy bee” (as he would say), Armando enjoyed gardening, thrifting, reading the newspaper, collecting vintage items, camping, going to and hosting garage sales, decorating for Christmas, hosting family BBQs, telling and laughing at his own corny jokes and reminiscing about the “good ‘ol years”. In more recent years, he enjoyed attending special events with his co-workers, including traveling to Mexico to visit friends. A fan of all things from the past, Armando relished watching classic TV show such as “I Love Lucy” and the “Honeymooners”, along with other black and white shows. He was also a consummate expert on 1960’s music. When a certain song from that decade would play, he would effortlessly recall a fond memory associated with it, in addition to being able to cite with precision the month and year that song came out. He would also gush when talking about his prized 1974 Pontiac Firebird.
Armando was a pillar of his family. He gave of himself unselfishly and would always go out of his way to be there for them. Whether selflessly assisting his parents and brother with their health needs before their passing, or devotedly helping nieces and nephews with the purchase of a new car, making repairs on others, shopping for items at Sam’s Club or cheering them on at almost every local sports game, Armando lovingly dedicated himself to his family. In more recent times, the highlight of his day would be picking up his nephew Adrian from school. He also treasured spending time with his surviving siblings, whether it was enjoying pancake or menudo breakfasts or attending local pro sporting events. He simply loved family coming together. Armando is survived by his siblings, Leticia and brother-in-law Ralph, Manuel and sister-in-law Olga, Olivia and brother-in-law Fonz, nieces and nephews; Monica Arrieta, Yvette Moreno and Andrea Perez and her husband Jose, Priscilla and Selena Renteria, Lenore Moreno, Javier Moreno and his wife Andrea, Ricardo Moreno and his wife Stephanie, including great nieces and nephews, Emily Arrieta, Jolena Gutierrez, Adrian Morales, Julian Morales and Nolan Moreno.
Armando was a quiet and tender soul and he will be deeply missed by all his friends and family.
A viewing will be held Sunday July 16, 2023, from 6 – 9 pm with the Rosary starting at 7 pm., at Camino del Sol, 200 North C St., Oxnard. Mass will be celebrated Monday July 17, 2023, at 10 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 2511 South C St., Oxnard. Burial to follow at Santa Clara Cemetery.
