Mary Anger Obituary

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Anger (alias Sister, Elizabeth, Ms. Anger, Moms, Grandma)

Mary Elizabeth Anger was born on June 21, 1934 to Jerue and Phoebe Hawkins in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  She was the second of six children.  She attended elementary school, junior high school and high school in Oklahoma. Mary was blessed to complete some college courses before discovering her career of choice in nursing.  She completed an Associates of Science degree in nursing and worked as a registered nurse (RN) for 42 years.

Mary moved and settled in Oxnard, California in 1958 where she met and married the love of her life Wallace Anger in 1960. She birthed 7 children, Patricia, Betty Ann, Chris, Manuel, Lavoyn, Jeannie, and Victor.

Mary loved her church and youth sports. She was active in the Channel Island Community Church of God in Christ (Tried Stone). She was a member of the Women’s Department, Board of Directors, secretary/treasurer, finance committee, Sick and Shut-in, Bereavement Committee, Birthday Committee, Strawberry Festival Committee, President of the Nurse’s Unit and the church picnic committee. Mary remained active in the community and was a very active member of the “Way Back When” group until her health no longer allowed her to participate. Mary enjoyed spending lots of her time with her children (and other children), family barbecues and outings. She spent countless hours supporting her kids from sporting events, boys and girls scouts, to various school events. She also enjoyed working at Channels Islands High School football and basketball games where she worked the ticket booths for several years. Her skill and heart allowed her to do countless volunteer work at St. John's hospital in Oxnard. Even though she had a fear of flying, she finally got the nerve to visit and travel with family all around the world.

Mary Anger transitioned in the early morning peacefully to be in the arms of Jesus on Friday, July 19, 2019. Cherishing the precious times of her life are her children, Manuel Anger (Masaye) of Oxnard, Jeannie Anger-Pompey (Curtis) of Bakersfield, Lavoyn Marie Anger of Washington, and Victor Anger (Lisa) of San Clemente, 12 grandchildren, Carletha Michelle Anger, LaMar Anger, Michael Wilson, Lamont Calloway, Melissa Anger, LaRon Anger, Marsha Anger, Shannon Franklyn, Lawren Gillespie, Williambenee Franklin and Carina Anger; 13 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Anger, her 2 sisters and 3 brothers, Florence Brown, Teresa Smith, Jerue Hawkins Jr., Timothy Hawkins and Archie Hawkins; her son, Wallace Christopher Anger and her daughters, Betty Ann and Patricia Anger
